ITV Report from Karen State
Following reports by the BBC and Channel 4 reporting from Karenni State earlier this year, ITV have just released a report from neighbouring Karen State.
Correspondent Debi Edward went into Karen State where the Karen ethnic armed group, the KNLA, are leading resistance against the military dictatorship.
Debi reports that in recent months, bombings by the military junta have intensified and the junta has been using its superior air power to destroy villages and towns. Hundreds of innocent civilians have been killed or injured in the strikes.
They also visited one IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camp close to the Thai border where more than 5,000 people are living in temporary homes after fleeing areas that have been bombed. As with most of the IDP camps very little aid reaches them as safety concerns prevent most NGOs operating in these areas.
